Hi Missy,

I had a Trimalleolar fracture (left ankle) several years ago. I'm sure things have improved over the years, but it was 3 months or so before I was off the crutches.....so be patient! They took the hardware out a year after my initial surgery (due to my age at the time). Once you start physical therapy, be sure to take it seriously. The exercises they recommend are very important. It will make a BIG difference in the long run (regarding the flexibility in your ankle). My ankle has been pain free over the years....although it's a bit stiffer than my right ankle. It makes grinding & popping sounds when I rotate it in a circle, but it doesn't hurt. I would say the flexibility is the main thing that was affected by the fracture.
I'm a pretty active person and it hasn't affected my activity level much (except during the first year).

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Good luck with your recovery!

Heather
