Comment : Nail Removed
Posted by John on Fri 5:32pm 13 December 2002
I had an open tib/fib fracture on my right leg back on Friday, September 13th caused by a head on collision.
Just had the nail removed a few days ago to get the bones to unite and heal better and sooner. I was walking pretty well prior to the nail removal and now find myself in a lot of pain and barely able to walk. Seeing the doctor tomorrow to try to find out what is going on. I am told this is not normal.
Started with an external fixator, three weeks later had the fixator romoved and a rod inserted in the tibia. I was unable to walk for five weeks due to the fact that I also fractured my acetabulum (part of the pelvis) on the left side, so was unable to put weight on either side.
The recovery has been long, slow and painful, but I am hopeful that a year from now things will be much better.
