Misty : One week post surgery
Diary entry posted Sun 12:07pm 3 October 2004
A week ago Friday, I fell while getting out of the shower. I felt a bone in my ankle snap as I came crashing down. After a trip to the ER, I found out that I broke my fibula in two places and the bone I felt snap in two was my tibula.
First thing Sunday morning I was in surgery. The surgery to put two thin metal plates in my ankle took about two hours. I was feeling pretty good until I got in the car to come home. I was in a tremendous amount of pain and the 30 minute ride home felt like an eternity. My husband phoned the doctor as soon as we got home to ask him what to do. I was in so much pain I felt like I was going to pass out. The doctor told him that I needed to take two vicodins every four hours. I did just that until Tuesday when the vicodin made me very ill.
I have been taking extra strength tylenol ever since for the pain, and my ankle seems to be improving each day. I try to get up and move around more and more.
The doctor is concerned about my healing because I am a diabetic. I think the ankle is healing well and I get the stitches out on Tuesday. I am hoping that I will be put in a cast that will allow me to move my knee more freely since this cast is very constricting.
I am happy that I found a website where I can chat with others who have had a similar experience. I have no weigh bearing for six weeks and that is horrible to me. I have horses and I am very active. I should say I WAS very active :-)
