Lea : Broken fibula on my anniversary Diary entry posted Mon 9:46am 28 November 2005
I can't believe I've broken my ankle. My fibula. I fell down the stairs, only the bottom two but managed to twist my ankle and brake it. Unfortunately it was on November 16 my 26th wedding anniversary. I heard the pop so I new immediately it wasn't sprained. Has anyone seen the commercial where the woman falls and she can't get up. Thats how I felt. Here I was on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Home alone with the dog. And I couldn't get off the floor. I had to crawl, actually drag myself thru the dining room , down another step to the family room where A cordless phone was low enough to reach. Oh, did I mention it was 7:30 AM. I called my daughter, she a junior in college. I woke her, she wasn't happy. Then called my boss, I guess she needed to know I was on floor with a broken ankle and was unable to work. I then ruined my husband's day. I ended up having to call 911 because I couldn't walk, couldn't get off the floor. How embarssing, a fire truck, 2 police cars and an ambulance for a broken ankle. I'm sure I was the highlight of the neighborhood being wheeled out my front door in my poka dot PJ's. The up side, no wait in the ER when you arrive my ambulance. I ended up being in the ER about 5 hours. Found out I broke my fibula, very near the joint. Had tons of xrays. Went home in a beautiful black boot. They gave me a choice between the boot or a splint with the ace wrap etc. I thought the boot would make showering easier.....nothing makes that easy. It's an experience. Went home with instructions to follow up with OS in a week. Spent the week, including Thanksgiving sitting on the sofa being waited on. I'm not use to that. Does all this inactivity mean extra pounds? Hope not, need to figure out some way to exercise. Back to Lea's homepage |
