Ilene, I was wearing clunky shoes, too. Some Merrills weatherproof clogs. They are fast to put on, and look stylish, but not good support at all. When I stepped off the 15 inch deck, my right foot went into the mud and turned inward, and I badly sprained the ankle. Then, losing my balance, and distracted by the pain, I came down hard on the left foot and it planted itself in the mud, putting torque on my left leg as I fell clockwise on my back, and producing a spiral fx of the left fibula. I am sure it was the clunky shoes that were the culprits. I think when I wear heels I'm a lot more careful, because I know they're unstable. But the clogs are deceptive. They look substantial, but they are structurally unstable. An accident waiting to happen!
