 Re: Muscle Cramps under cast
Benita (---.server.ntli.net)   10:48am May 8 2004

Hi, I had severe muscle cramps which woke me up at night and I had it during the day as awell . I was also in my 5th week of wearing the cast. I got worried as I know plaster cast wearers are prone to DVT becuase of lack of circulation the leg. I was in so much pain from the cramps so I contacted the hospital who said to come in if it got worse.

I found that keeping my leg elevated helped alot as I stopped keeping it elevated for about a week previous to me getting the cramps. (I was keeping it elevated previously). Because the cramps eased alot i didnt go to the hospital but I researched the causes of thes cramp.

I would recommed talking to your hospital. Also I dont mean to get personal but if you are on a certain types of contraception it can increase your risk of DVT even without wearing a cast.
