Well, my accident wasn't all that exciting - I fell in my garage!
I have to say that I was extremely lucky as my pain was easily managed (at least for the broken leg - the sprained one hurt much worse!) post surgery with the oxy. I was in the hospital about five days - and then home after that. Keeping it elevated as much as possible made a huge difference. I think you will find that your pain will continue to decrease readily now. Keep it up and ice when you can.
Warning that your splint will probably be replaced by a big black boot! It's nice because you can take it off to wash, etc. Though it's tempting to have it off a lot try to keep it on as much as possible so that it keeps your ankle in the right position. Trust me that time spent in the boot now will help you later when you go to rehab.
