Tips for going up stairs

I know some of you have gone up stairs from the start because of necessity. I would love tips on going up carpeted steps in a house. I haven't gone upstairs sine I fell down them a month ago. My goal is to get upstairs this weekend and finally take a shower. I ordered a shower bench to help me get in the tub and it should be here by then. My friend crawled up the stairs on his hands and knees when he broke his ankle. I was thinking of that or scooting up and down in a seated position.

6/7/12 Surgery for trimalleolar fracture (5 screws and plate)
6/13/12 Split cast w/ window for wound
6/27/12 Regular cast
7/18/12 Boot-WB
8/15/12 WB in shoe!!!
