I also recommend using the crutches for a little while. Not necessarily until you are pain-free, but just until it feels like your leg isn't going to give out on you. Check out some of the exercises on the Tips section of this site-they really, really help to strengthen the supporting muscles of the leg. Seeing a physical therapist for a few sessions is also very helpful. Remember that putting weight on the leg will encourage further growth, so you should do it as much as you can, but elevate and ice as you need it too!
