Take it one day at a time, Trista. I feel for you, I really do. I wasn't on painkillers for very long because they just didn't help the pain (not even oramorph! What a waste of time that was!). For at least 6 weeks I was confined to downstairs, using a commode & having people clean it out for me was humiliating :( It was just awful. Even after my ankles healed, I still needed help, but it got less over time.
Try to find things that you can do yourself & take pride in them. I, slowly, found more independence while in my wheelchair (things like feeding the dog, transferring washing to the dryer, using the microwave etc) & that really helped with my mood.
Keep reminding yourself that this isn't forever. The time will soon pass, I promise.
28/09/2011 - Car accident, two fractured ankles
29/09/2011 - Surgery, NWB for 2 weeks
13/10/2011 - Casts changed. Boot on left leg, try WB, NWB on right
10/11/2011 - Cast and boot off. FWB on both.
11/11/2011 - Able to walk using 2 crutches
