You're doing the right thing.
I kept mine elevated non-stop for probably a few weeks post op with the only time it was down was going to the bathroom and showering. I slowly started to let it hang, but it takes a while before letting it hang doesn't hurt. Mine would turn purple and swell within a minute of putting it down in the beginning.
It will get better with time.

4/16 cast NWB
5/17cast removed, boot NWB
6/04 boot removed, ankle brace FWB
6/06 syndo screw HWR, still FWB
6/13 lap cholecystectomy
6/24 back to work
