My OS told me not to put anything on my incision until at least 2 weeks after the stitches were out. I remember the feeling of tight/itchy but not worth the complications that could occur. The only thing I did once they were removed is made sure to wash the incision with dial (antibacterial soap) and I started using bio oil after a few weeks after stitches.

2/17 bimalleolar ankle fracture (fib/tib) not displaced
2/29 ORIF (2 plates and 7 screws) - soft cast for 2 weeks
3/15 removable boot NWB
4/12 WBAT - in boot
5/14 walking unaided
6/28 - Fibula plate removal
