I am in close to same area of healing and have had ankle injuries before. This website ( http://www.orthonc.com/physical-therapy/home-exercise-protocols ) has some good starters for home exercises which I remember doing for other ankle injuries. I am going to add in water therapy while I am still in process of mending too. If you do water therapy, be sure the pool has WARM water as that makes it much more comfortable and soothing. (this is per an athritis specialist in physical therapy). If you can't get to a pool, get a 13 gallon plastic garbage can (cleaned with bleach/soap), fill it with warm water deep enough that you can put your foot and calf in it while sitting. Add epsom salts and start your ROM exercises in the warm water in the garbage can. Let me tell you, the day after I got my cast off, I did this and "freed" up the tightened ligaments, etc by about 2" (point toes up and down) as well as could somewhat do a faint circle with the foot.
04/27/12 fell dwn 13 stairs, L ankle trimallealor fracture (shattered fibula, tibia fracture, talus dislocation). 04/28 ORIF surgery, 13 screws and one 6 inch long plate, WBAT. 06/06 cast (2nd) rmvd, rplcd w/ gel cast, bones STILL mending.
