As far as bone grafts being "horrible", usually the complaints are about ongoing pain from coughing or sneezing when the donor site is at the hip. From what I've read here, when they take auto graft material from the tibia, there's very little discomfort afterward. I hope that eases at least one worry for you.
Of course my ORIF was done sooner, but for me, my leg felt soooo much better afterward! Generally speaking, recovery from subsequent surgeries is much easier and quicker than the original traumatic break. I hope that's your experience, too, and the light at the end of this tunnel soon shines bright for you.
