Surgery was almost five weeks ago. Yesterday, my nurse said that I didn't need a dressing on the incision anymore. However, part of the incision is still not healed so I asked the nurse that came this morning about it. She said it is better to leave it covered with a dressing until everything is healed. She put on two steri strips and tegaderm. Two hours later I look down to see parts of the steri strips have turned orange. The open part of the incision has started to leak yellow/reddish fluid. Given my history with a chronic bone infection/staph infections I am concerned. My mom said we should wait and see what happens and ask the nurse that comes in the morning. But I am not sure what I should do. At the least I think I will call the nurse and ask her about it.
Both the OS and the ID said that as this is the third surgery in the same spot that things will take longer to heal... but I'm at the five week mark and wasn't expecting and drainage. Anyone have any advice (besides going to the doctor)?
I don't know if it matters, but the incisions for the first two surgeries were 21cm long, and this one is only 8 (considerably smaller thankfully). Also, things are still pretty swollen around the incision and at times painful. There is ony spot that is pretty red.
