Comment : Re: Re: Spiral Fracture of Tib & Fib

I broke just my fibula. On June 16th, while playing baseball, I tried to barehand a grounder out to right field. I missed it and tried to collapse dive at the ball but instead twisted my right foot 90 degrees to the outside. At first I was screaming, "I broke my leg. I broke my leg." But someone on the team convinced me that, it might just be a torn or pulled calf muscle. I got off the field and I iced it immediately. I iced it all that night. The next morning, my ankle was severely swollen. But the pain in my leg was not as noticable. I hobbled to work on it for a week not moving the foot. A week later I got crutches. But finally after a week of using crutches I went to a doctor to get xrays. YES, the bone was broken. I found out I had a spiral fracture of the fibula. So I went to the hospital where the orthopedic doctor twisted my foot to the outside to see if the ankle joint would separate. It didn't. I was lucky. If it separated at the joint, I would have need a pin to hold it in place. They gave me a walking cast which I have had on for almost 2 weeks. However, I think it is too short. I'm 6'5" and it ends about 4 inches below the bottom of my knee. Luckily, my tibia is ok. I am getting xrays on Monday which is 4 whole weeks since the accident. It still hurts especially in particular positions. So I'm sure I will have to wear this thing another 2 weeks.
