I broke my right fibula and tibia on May 25, 2008 playing volleyball. I had my first surgery to correct the fibula on May 27, 2008. The surgery was to put a plate and screws on the fibula. When I woke from the surgery I had 4 rods sticking out from my foot and 2 rods sticking out from the top of my shin. I think it is called an external fixator. I had a second surgery on June 6 to fix the tibula. On June 24, 2008 I had my final surgery to remove the external fixator. I am now wearing a removable boot and going to physical therapy 2 times a week to regain range of motion in my ankle. It has been a slow process and I am not sure when I will begin to put weight on my leg again, but I am very pleased with my doctor. I will find out more in August when I return to the doctor.
