13 year old has spiral fracture of fibula on left leg. Was playing basketball, took jump shot and down upon it he fell. Last night was the worst! Swelling was severe, happened at school, and they didn't even take his shoe off until I got there to see it! (was wearing converse high tops, which didn't help swelling, since they didn't untie them). Anyway, has a splint until he is seen by ortho and it's non-weight bearing. He is on Loratab for pain, and he weighs 200lbs. It doesn't even knock the edge off for longer than 30 minutes at a time. Is it common for this kind of break to take longer than the average 6 weeks in a cast to heal?
