Tamara, I'm not sure what your husband had done but everyone that I have spoken to that has had a break in the fibula /Tib was ordered not to bare weight right after the break. I know with mines I was not allowed for 2 months to bare any weight and With mines I dislocated my ankle and broke my fibula, I was put in a cast after they placed the ankle back then the cast stayed on for a few hrs then rushed me into surgery to repair my broken fibula, then it was wrapped with gause/and ace-wrap then two weeks later or so I was placed in a moon trooper boot which goes up to the knee I started walking Jan ,and its Now March and I'm still in the boot and and walking my accident happen Nov.4th,,So the only thing I deal with now is lots of stiffness around the ankle and tons of swelling,a shoe is not good for me to wear my foot swells to much so i wear the brace/boot all the time ,,The doctor says it will last for about a year to two years. And I go to a military hospital to be treated and they deal with the military jumpers all the time breaking their fibula/tib so all the guys i have spoke to have had the same problems ,,I hope your husband does better then some of us out here. He has to keep in his mind that its his body if he cant walk good or bare weight then hey he needs to speak up and say no i'm not ready to do certain things yet. The docotrs will at times rush ppl back to their feets because of the insurance you have. And the company you work for..Hang in their..
