Christina_H : My truck VS Canal... Hmm...
Diary entry posted Tue 9:13am 7 August 2012

So, my story all started on July 28, 2012... My son has just turned 8 years old... WOW.. Anyway, we had a party for him at my mothers house with all of his classmates. We had a great day, and after it was all over, I decided to do to the store to get a few things. It was about 9:30pm, and I wish now that I had just waited, but things happen for a reason, thats the only thing that is keeping me going right now.
My parents live in the Acreage. It is a part of Florida with dirt roads and lots of canals. I was going too fast, and lost control. The next thing I knew I opened my eyes, my air bags had blown, and my truck was filling with water. So scary... OMG, I keep getting flashbacks. I crawled out of the truck and leaned against the bank. I came out with a broken ankle. It broke in 4 spots and I broke my fibula. My step father came to the scene, and said that I had tried to turn and hit the brakes at the same time. My truck hit a birm, and I went flying and almost flipped over. The drivers side of my truck hit the bank, and I landed back on 2 wheels thank God. If I would have flipped, I wouldn't be here today complaining about a broken leg... I hit my head on the side of the truck, where the window meets the door and after being taken to the hospital in the ambulance, I was trauma-hawked to a trauma center, checking my head to make sure there wasn't any more damage. Thank GOd I didn't have my little boy with me!! If I would have done anything to hurt him, I would not be able to forgive myself. I had surgery to put my leg back together... I now have what is called an external fixator holding it in place. I am completely NWB for now, probably the next 6 weeks. I have an OS appointment this Wednesday (8/8/12) to make sure everything is healing correctly. There are 3 screws going into my Tibia, and a big brace looking thing that goes down to 2 more screws in my ankle. No cast, which is very intimidating. I am doing the best I can to deal with my situation, but it is very hard.
Luckily, I have been able to move back in with my parents until I get better, and my mother and sister are both nurses. Mom helps so much, and my sister comes in every other day to make sure all is well. Thank God I have a wonderful family to take care of me... Also, I am getting ready to go through a divorce. Just fantastic! UGH, anyway, I am happy to have found this site and others who are going through the same crazy things I am!
