Wow, if you can do that much it is probably just your confidence holding you back from going out more.

Something called propreoception (or something like that) is apparently knocked out by serious injury in the limbs, which means that you lose the ability to know where your injured leg is within space.....sounds a bit deep, but basically means you don't have much balance and it is hard to walk over ground which is not flat and uniform....is this what is causing you problems? It gets better, but you have to practice to get the signals reconnecting to the brain. I try to walk (slowly at first) across the garden where it is not flat as this seems to help. My PT also got me to kick a birthing ball (pulling heel into it) as this helps also.

Enjoy the new car. I love driving again, although my leg was a bit stiff at first as you do have to bend your leg a suprising amount to get it on the clutch peddle.
