Annie_L : Physio begins at last
Diary entry posted Thu 2:22pm 3 February 2011

Finally 7 weeks and 3 days after surgery and 10 days after coming out of my knee brace I start physio. When the brace was fitted I was told I could bend up to 60 degrees but got no instructions or exercises on how to, it was the same when the cast was removed. I think the NHS could save time and money if they used the fracture clinic physios to show patients these so that when you finally get referred to regular physio, you are already ahead. Instead I arrive with about 40 degree bend in my knee and not being able to use my crutches properly. Still that was then and now I can walk correctly and I have! I am doing my exercises 4 times a day and my knee is rubbish. I have been shown stairs but husband's work schedule means that this week if I sleep upstairs I will have to be downstairs at the crack of dawn before he goes to work. I think I'll carry on in my downstairs bedroom for a few more days.
Feeling quite good though, I have 'walked' with the crutches round a parent's evening at school and the supermarket. Off to see my parents tomorrow, first time since November
