Annie : My Timeline - Update
Diary entry posted Mon 9:51am 28 March 2005

Mar 28 (11 weeks)I have had 4 PT visits so far, and each time I go, the day after I notice a real improvement. My ROM is much better, and the remaining swelling improves. I am beginning to see what looks like an ankle again (not a swollen miss-shapened thing), and as I do my band exercises, I can see the tendons moving. I am able to do my 3 sessions of home PT exercises well. The heel raises are coming along, which means that my calf muscles are slowly improving. I can fairly easily balance on my injured ankle/foot for the 60 seconds 3 times, although trying to do that with my eyes closed is a joke (I have almost fallen over several times!). The soleus and gastroc stretches are coming along and really improving my flexibility. My eversion (ankle out) band stretch is doing really well; the inversion (ankle in) band stretch still has a ways to go. So, things are coming along. I try to get out whenever the weather allows and do my walk, looking up at my snow-covered mountains for inspiration. I can now do about a 3/4 mile walk, slowly but surely, and I have upped my bike ride to about 20 minutes to help my ROM. At about that point right now, my leg muscles start jerking and spasming, so I need to quit. At least now, I can get around to do things. The recovery of this injury takes great patience; it is really SLOW all the way, but it is coming along.
