November 1st I started physio - hurray! I finally feel like I can take a bit of control over the progress I make!
On my first day of physio (Monday) I found out I have a sprained knee! She is sure I injured it in the fall because of the extent of ligament/soft tissue damage but because of the excruciating pain and swelling in my ankle no one was looking at my knee. My knee cap was then immobolized and casted out of position and then it literally "locked" out of position. This explains why it was soooo incredibly and intensely painful trying to bend my knee for the first time when it came out of the full leg cast - it literally took me 15 minutes to try to bend it - it scared the crap out of me! (thought I might never be able to bend it again) ... Anyways since my cast came off on October 4th I've been trying to start walking again but this knee has been making it very, very difficult! I knew I was having lots of knee pain but thought it was due to my knee carrying the weight of the casts these last months. It would ache and throb and I would put tons of 'aspercreme' on it hoping for some relief. Anyways, on Monday she was able to reset my knee back in proper position - it's still very loose (I might need to wear a knee brace) but already it feels better!! I can tell that it makes a difference when I try to walk - it just seems more natural ... day by day my leg/foot is beginning to feel more like my own again.
Small steps - literally and figuratively - but I'll take them gladly!!
