Ann : 3 months and all is well, or weller
Diary entry posted Sat 8:38am 31 July 2004

Went to see the os for my 3 month check and am psyched. Obvious bone growth even though there is a hole in the fibula - looks a little like a darning needle. It helps to remember that it's not hanging in space, but is covered by a callus. Anyway, I was graduated from the velcro strapped boot to an aircast and permission to weight bear - full speed ahead - use crutch or cane if limping and crutch if on uneven ground. Scheduled to return in 6 weeks. Celebrated with a new pair of shoes - actually nothing I own will fit the aircast.
So, I was able to walk around and take month end inventory on friday. Took 2 hours instead of 1 to 1-1/2, but I'm not complaining. It was sunny and warm and this summer has been anything but.
Went to class to train. The aircast changes how I move and what I need to be aware of. In the heavy boot I felt very safe, almost indestructable. Being lighter and more open, the aircast I feel that my leg is much more vulnerable (true or not), so I will avoid sparring until I feel safe. It does however let me start to move in stances. Front stance which is lead leg forward bent at the knee, opposite leg back knee straight w/ heel on the floor hurts with the bl back - no surprise. So I'm discovering how to adjust balance and execute safely. I'm scheduled to test for maintaining rank in 3 weeks. I'll have to write an essay - evaluate myself using the three levels of learning mind/body, mental/physical, material/spiritual - what, how and why. The last three months have added a new dimension to how I see myself and appreciate what is around me.
