Angie2 : The truck pulls out, screech, crash…ouch!
Diary entry posted Fri 8:32pm 7 December 2007

Well here I am so I must have a broken leg, ha ha. I’m going on 6 weeks out of a tibia fracture with a fractured ankle and a fibula broken in two places. They inserted a stainless steel rod in my tibia and my fibula will permanently be out of alignment. This was all due to slamming on the breaks when a truck pulled out across my lane and the impact coming back through my leg…fun times. I personally believe the rod placement was the best thing for my recovery time and comfort level. Three weeks out of surgery I was permitted to put 50% weight on my leg with the big moon boot and my Dr. started my PT. So going on week 3 of PT I’m making great progress, they say I’m about 3 weeks ahead in my recovery. Prior to the accident I was strength training, doing martial arts and had started a new job…after the accident I am unable to do any of these things but my Dr.s say I might be able to go back to everything with time, they plan on me going back to work at week 8! If anyone is wondering I have been taking bone health supplements, multivitamins and eating the best I can…don’t forget keeping a positive attitude…I think it helps! I really do think that had I not been active it would be extremely hard at PT, I’ve really lost a ton of muscle since I haven’t been able to train at all.

I do have a few questions if your reading this and have had the surgery….did you have any remaining stitches? I have the dissolving ones but there is one on my ankle which has not dissolved and its slightly halfway in and halfway out of the skin surface…no pain but just there. This may sound silly, but girls you understand, I was curious how soon you were able to wear your high heals again…I’m rather short and really miss them. Also, what type of shoe do you find most comfortable for long days on your feet? If you were active in martial arts or running or any type of physical activity how soon were you able to get back to training or activity? And did you have any restrictions?

I hope if anyone is reading this it helps you with your recovery, or at least gives you a laugh and something to read while your sitting around with your broken leg. If you have any questions or advise I would love to hear from you!...Give me something to do!

Thanks a bunch and Happy Healing!
