Angela_S : Pregnant and over it.
Diary entry posted Wed 9:37am 15 April 2015

My issues began actually on my son's 5th birthday of all days. I'm an lpn that works seconds at the nursing home. I got off work around 11 and I rushed to my sitter's excited that I'll have a few days off with my son to celebrate. As I was taking his car seat from her house to place into my car, I slid on ice landing on my left leg. The pain instantly rushed through my body and I sat with snow all over me in shock. It was midnight, would I be able to get help? Everyone was asleep. My natural instinct was to scream and luckily her husband on the second floor somehow heard me. He came outside and we tried to stand me up and it wasn't happening. They placed me in the car and to the ER I go. After I had x-rays done I was told I had a fibula and tibia fracture. They put me in a temporary cast and sent me home with a orthopedic surgeon referral. I waited two days and saw him and was told that I needed surgery but they had to check with my OB first. I waited a week and had surgery. They said 2nd trimester is the best time to have surgery and it wouldn't harm the baby. I wasn't allowed anesthetic so I had a spinal and was awake for the whole surgery which was supposed to be outpatient. Once the spinal wore off, I was in excruciating pain and they admitted me. I was given so much medications and nothing would help. After 14 hours of crying they snapped my cast in half and the swelling was so bad that I had no circulation. I finally had some relief. 2 days later I went home. I wasn't home for 24 hours and the imaginable happened. I was using my walker to go to the bathroom and I passed out. Landed on my wrist and fractured that. I had to get the squad to take me back to the hospital. They admitted me on the cardiac floor for increased heart rate. They ran all these tests but the only result was my baby was making my heart beat incredibly fast and my BP would drop. They blamed it on the pregnancy and vagel response. So now I am 6 months pregnant, still non weight bearing from my first injury on March 5th. March 13th was my surgery and the 16th is when I fractured my wrist. I can't work. I can't walk. I'm wheelchair bound. I am supposed to be non weight bearing for 10 weeks. I can't keep living life this way. I'm so beyond stressed, I just want my life back. I'm hoping this site will give me some relief.
