Comment : Same time - similar break
Posted by Lori_C on Fri 7:54am 22 February 2008

Hi, my diary hasn't shown up on the site yet but I had a similar situation as you. On Jan. 5 I walked out of my kitchen into my garage down 1 step then the next thing I knew I was in the worst pain I have ever felt in my life (it was easier having both of my children). I must have slipped on my left foot (I had on fuzzy, slippery socks) then landed on garage floor on my right. My husband and kids came running & my husband said I think I should call an ambulance but I said no. Looking back, I should have because the pain was unbearable on the 10-15 min. drive to ER. I dislocated and broke tib & fib. Had surgery 3 days later with a plate & 11 screws put in. I also had a nerve block when I came home that lasted about 2 days. Had stitches out following week and have been in a boot since. Tomorrow will be 7 weeks and I do feel better, but I can tell I have a long way. I am still NWB & return to doctor on 2-27 then physical therapy should start soon after. Currently having dull pain and burning sensation as well as skin peeling on foot. Glad you are healing fairly quickly. I have a friend that had similar break as me & she said it was a good 6 months until recovery. She was on crutches for 4 months! That's the part I dread. I want to walk so badly! Going on vacation in 5 weeks & really not thrilled about being on crutches in the sandy beaches of Panama City. I will love laying by pool & on the beach. I will be so glad to get out of my recliner & see something other than my living room! Best of luck to you.
