Andrew_G : Tib Fib Spiral Fracture While Playing Ice Hockey
Diary entry posted Sun 10:35pm 4 February 2007

It was my first freakin' shift of the night. I got bumped by a guy, my inside edge of my right skate dug in the ice twisting my right leg as I went down. I felt it snap as I went down. It didn't hurt right away. I just laid on the ice and yelled to the ref to stop play since my leg was busted. My dad also plays on my team, and he's a nurse so he took command. He took off his shin guard and splinted my leg with it, and removed my right skate. An ambulance was called, and I was shipped off to the hospital, where they x-rayed me and started me on dilaudid for the now terrible pain.

The next morning, they stuck an intramedullary rod into my tibia. I was in the hospital for a week, partly because I contracted pneumonia.

So, now I'm at home, in week 3, missing work and hobbling around on crutches. Yippie.
