Comment : Your break sounds like mine

I fractured my left knee in 2001, had to have a new tibial plateau constructed by my surgeons. The plateau settled as it healed, which means my knee won't straighten out all the way. I had an external fixator on the outside of my knee for 5 months which meant I could not take a shower for 5 months or go upstairs to my bedroom. I lived downstairs being cared for by my 2 teen aged sons, who were good but didn't enjoy being tied down by me. My son had to drive me around, take me shopping, etc. push my wheelchair. Finally I got a walker, then a cane. I read, watched tv, rented movies, tried to embroider(ugly). My friends from church came to my house and brought lunch every Thursday, but I am a peolpe person, and the isolation was the worst.I definitely have a lot more sympathy for peolpe in wheelchairs now after trying to use what passes for handicapped bathrooms. Every little step up was a challenge for me since I couldn't put weight on my foot for 5 mo. and was hopping around on one foot with a walker. This site is great! I met so many people from all over the world. Now I do yoga, which has helped me so much to keep my injured leg stretched out so I don't limp. I ride a bike at the gym to keep my knee flexible. I'm 54, and this break changed my life, but it also showed me how many people care about me. Hang in there and keep writing!
