Amy_B : Two weeks of PT under my belt
Diary entry posted Fri 11:27am 15 July 2005

Its been 3 weeks since my cast has come off and two that I have been doing PT 3 times a week. What a difference a few weeks can make. My therapists are very happy with my progress and told me how amazed they are that I am walking like I am. I have Darth on during the day and walk with no crutches. At night I take Darth off and I am walking around the house with no crutches or cane. Every day I go over to my moms house and swim in their pool. For anyone that has access to one I will say that this has been the biggest help to me. I do stretches and aerobic excersies in the pool and have seen a major difference in my ROM and just over all well being. Being in the water you almost feel like your old self again before any of this ever happened to us. I have outpatient surgery scheduled for August second to get my screws removed. I am very excited about this. I hate the way they feel and will be happy when they are out of my body. I know that the only reason I am walking today is in large part due to those screws, but not feeling them in there anymore will be one more step. For anyone that is very frustrated or at the begining of their journey into what life is like with a BL, what really helps me is to set little goals. Because my patience has been sorely tested!! First it was getting the cast off. Then walking with one crutch, then no crutch etc. Getting down the steps on my own was a major one I conquered this past weekend. Anything to get closer to being that independent person we were before this happened. I have not ventured back to the gym yet, before my BL I was going 3 to 4 times a week and walking the other days. I had lost 45 pounds and I am very commited to my weight loss goals and good helth. With my 16 month old son and turning 30 next year I knew I wasnt getting any younger and had to make a change for the better. This BL has slowed me down but it wont keep me down. The best medicine for me has been to stay as positive as I can and check this site often for laughs and advice.
