Amy_B : My vacation...

My broken leg and how it came to be is way less glamorous then most people on this site. On May 12th my fiance and I went on a long awaited trip to Maryland. Good friends of ours were getting married and we wanted to be there the night of their wedding to celebrate with them and all our friends. We were having a fantastic time partying with everyone and visting all of our old haunts. Then Saturday night was the wedding. It was so much fun and we had such a good time. They invited us back to their hotel to hang out with them afterwards and we said yes. We were walking in the back entrance of Days Inn when all of a sudden I tripped over something, my ankle twisted and I fell right on top of my leg. I heard and felt it break just like everyone on this site has reported. I couldnt believe it. I looked down and saw my knee pointing up and my foot pointing to the left at a crazy angle. I was screaming at the top of my lungs at first, I dont think I have ever seen Bob be so scared for me. He called an ambulance and I was laying on the sidewalk waiting for them. Then pain was so intense I started to black out but Bob kept talking to me until the ambulance got there. No pain medicine and the amublance ride from hell in Baltimore city. I think the ambulance driver hit every pot hole on the way there. At the hospital I had a very positive experience all in all. They gave me pain medication right away. I had xrays and then more xrays. They reported to me that I had a broken fibula and tibia. The worst part was them pushing my foot back into place. Since I was due to fly back to Florida the next day there was nothing more they were going to do for me. They put this ginormus splint on my leg and sent me on my way. The pain was horrible, the experience of flying was awful and I dont know how I did it looking back.
May 17th I went to the OS and after more xrays they reported to me that my ankle was dislocated as well as the broken tib and fib. They rushed me on to the hospital where I was admited and operated on that night. I was released the next afternoon with 4 screws holding everything together. The next weeks crawled by and were really horrible, of just feeling depressed and awful. I am now into week 6 and my OS appointment is June 28th. I am so excited and nervous. This site has been a godsend and thank you to everyone sharing their experience and stories.
