Amanda_L : Week 7
Diary entry posted Fri 2:12pm 27 February 2009

Well, here we are at week 7 of the fractured tib fib experience. I have a lot of hardware - 17 screws and 2 rods from my knee to my ankle. Its my right leg, which inhibits so much more!! I was released from blood thinners at week 6 and now take baby aspirin daily. Those 2 times per week blood draws got really old, really fast!! My poor husband... I go from really good days to really bad days, without reason. I am on crutches and my hands are callusing, my wrists are aching and my pits have HAD it!! I think I have become more realistic in my visions of healing now. At my 4 week appt, I was hopeful and thinking that there would be dramatic changes in healing! WRONG! There was not a hint of healing. Had I not amped myself up for extreme healing, this would have looked differently than it did. But it threw me into a few very sad days! So at my 6 week appt, I didnt hold out hope for much healing and was unfortunately not disappointed. Luckily, I was referred to a bone stimulator and was approved through insurance immediately. I guess this is not the norm for people at 6 weeks! So today, I got set up with the device which looks like cheap plastic and amazes me it will work. I just lay my leg into this plastic bracket, hit a button and sit for 3o mins with it on. I can't feel anything, it doesnt make any noise... but they say it will help bone heal. Amazing!

I constantly ask the docs when I will go back to work, when I will run, when I will do XYZ, and there are really no answers, which has been frustrating. If I just had a timeline, I feel like I would have a litle more hope!! So in the meantime, I have read a lot, taken up sewing, ordered netflix and bought a hand mini cycle to exercise. Prior to this incident, I would go to the gym daily, work 50 hours a week, bum here and there... so its been quite an adjustment to life!!!
