Hello everyone. I am writing this to encourage others who have the same injury I have. I fell down a hill September 7, 2007 and broke all the bones in my ankle, crushed the joint connecting my foot to my leg, and fractured my leg. This can also be considered a trimalleolar fracture.
Many of you with this type of injury have heard horror stories about recovery. My story however, is different. Yes, the first few weeks (and sometimes now) I wished I would have just died. No such luck. It got alot better though. I was in a compression cast/splint for a week after I fell before they could do surgery. Then after the surgery I was in the same cast for two weeks. After those two weeks I was put into my hard cast for 5 weeks. I have been in my black cam boot for 3 weeks. I started physical therapy and I have been doing exceptional! I was VERY nervous about this. As I had been told over and over again how this is one of the worst injuries to recover in PT with. THAT was encouraging... Anyway I just started walking in therapy last week. Its hard. It hurts, but the pain is almost a good feeling. Strange I know...but I dont know how else to discribe it. Its definatley not anywhere near what I thought it would be.
Well this is my story thus far in a nutshell. I hope that the rest of you have as much luck as I do. I also hope my therapy continues to go well...otherwise I'll look like an idiot! lol Check back for more later!
