Comment : Tib/Fib Compound fract from horse kick
Posted by Phil Hutchings on Fri 9:31pm 19 August 2005
June 7/05 broke my tib fib when kicked by another race horse i was galloping in company with. I exercise race horses for a living which is a great fun job. We were out galloping in company shoulder to shoulder when my horse made a stutter step and i ended up slightly to the rear of the one beside me, before i could more out the other colt kicked out and hit me mid shin. shattered the tib/fib and both were open fractures. I can't wait to get back to it though, was just a freak accident. I went strait to the hospital and for surgery. Have an external fixator with 4pins, 2 above and 2 below the fracture site on the TIbia. Its been a little over 10 weeks now and i am still wearing the fixator, hopefully in another 3 weeks or so i'll be able to get it off so i can start back with partial wieght bearing and physio. Accidents happen with horses, before i got hurt i was riding over a 100 mounts a week and this is the worst injury i've had in 17yrs of riding, so its not all bad really. I get workers compensation and a long vacation haha. Good Luck with your leg.
