Allison : PWB after only one week?!
Diary entry posted Thu 8:49am 13 September 2007

So I talked to my OS and he is giving me instructions that seem to be totally contrary to all the wisdom on this board. First, let me say that even though I will seek another opinion, this guy is not a quack. He is young, extremely well educated and specializes in ankle injuries at one of the better ortho offices in the city.

My injury is only one week old and he is telling me that with my type of fx, 1) I can bear as much weight on it as is comfortable while wearing the boot, and 2) it's okay to take the boot off whenever I want to elevate it, and even to sleep.

Number 2 is nice to know, but I have tried sleeping without the boot and I prefer with for now. Number 1 is just weird because even though I can bear weight on it if I'm wearing the boot, I have heard from so many other sources not to, at least until 2-4 weeks. I wish wish wish this was my left leg instead of my right because I totally could drive if it was my left.

Anyway, his explanation for the weightbearing is that the joint is stable and there is no other injury to the surrounding ligaments. He did a stress x-ray (across the foot while your foot is in the position of the injury) and touched and prodded everything. The only injury seems to be the one bone. The fx is lined up well. He says bearing weight on it is not going to move or damage it. It just sounds a little crazy to me.
