Allen : Yikes!
Diary entry posted Mon 1:23pm 21 May 2001

Well, had my follow up appointment today. I saw the wound first - 16 staples- it pretty much looked like I expected it to. The nurse let me clean off my leg with an alcohol pad. YES! I made sure to get in between my toes. I had some x-rays taken next. The doctor said everything looks great. I have a plate and two screws...let me tell you...that bone is going nowhere any time soon- that hardware is defintely keeping it in place. lol. So, they put another splint on (much less bulky) and I have to go back on Friday to have the staples taken out and have a cast put on. I got the go ahead to go to work, as long as I don't put any weight on my hurt leg.

The worst thing, was the condition of my leg. First off, after being immobilized for 3 weeks, I could only flex my ankle about half an inch. But worse than that is how my calf muscles looked. Beside my other leg, it looks like the lower leg of a kid or something. I hope it is mostly because of loss in muscle tone. (My calf muscle swung beneath my leg instead of being beside it) My right calf looks normal with curves, but my left calf just is a stragit line from me knee to my ankle. YIKES! Guess all of us in the broken leg club have to deal with this. Oh well.
