Thanks, Diana. So, the report from the radiologist on the CT scan said that the alignment was "acceptable". My regular doctor and a second doctor looked at the CT scan films as well and said that they looked good and both doctors and the aide that put the cast all said that my leg was aligned. SO, there will be no bone breaking, no surgery. My regular doctor does acknowledge that my foot points slightly to the left when my leg is bent and does not seem to know why this is he case. The second doctor suggested that physical therapy could play a role in correcting it, as it could be weakened muscles. This was echoed by the guy that did the cast. The fact that all four of these people think I am going to be fine leads me to think I just might be, although I still have a touch of anxiety about how this will all turn out in the end. My new favorite pastime is looking at other people walk to see how their feet are positioned.

Between the two of us (and the other folks who come across this diary entry), sometimes this web site just isn't good for me. I appreciate the support that it provides -- particularly your support -- but I also think that there is a tendency for those who have had a hard time to scare others unnecessarily. Unintentionally, but unnecessarily. Or maybe it's that some of us allow ourselves to be frightened (and diagnosed) by people who inevitably know a great deal less about our situations than our doctors. I want to presume that my doctor has a self interest in providing me with good care, that he has managed to have a long and productive career and is teaching others (he is a professor at a teaching hospital) because he knows what he is talking about. I should not be doubting him and his abilities like I am. I'm not suggesting that I should not be diligent about my own care, but I should not presume that he is callous enough to let me be deformed for life either.

Anyway, done ranting. I'm going to focus on getting better. I go back in a month, I have a new cast on my leg (you should have seen the hunks of dead skin that came off of the bottom of my foot after being in that last cast for six weeks!) and both doctors said that there was significant bone growth since my last visit one month ago. The weight-bearing is doing the trick.
