Alicia : 2/21-3/8 The first few weeks
Diary entry posted Fri 9:20pm 4 May 2007

Coming home was hard. I have 4 children. My eldest is 10, and my youngest is 3, and is a special needs child. Between the broken leg/ankle, bruised knees (I couldn't put any weight on my knees) and general pain issues, I had to learn how to live all over again. I couldn't change my children's diapers, make then dinner, or even carry a cup of tea to the couch where I ended up living as a general rule. I kept everything I needed through the day (cell phone, laptop, sudoku puzzels, and whatever books I was currently reading at the time, as well as my lotion, drugs and the notebook I kept all my notes in) in a black overnight bag (think airline carry on sized) I would get up in the morning, have my husband bring my bag and pillows out to the living room and would set myself up to be bored all day. Netflix and a laptop computer helped. A few days after coming home, I realized I just couldn't do it on my own for awhile. My sweet baby brother used plenty of guilt trips on my sister and she finally came to stay with me for the first two weeks that I was home. This made my life a lot easier. Don't be afraid to ask/plead/whine for help to start with. Accept the fact that you need help and take it where you can find it. She helped cook and bring me food during the day, kept the laundry up (4 kids, plus my hubby and I makes for plenty of laundry), and would keep me somewhat entertained.
