Hi, im a 24 year old guy livin in Scotland. On the 2nd feb I was changing the wheels over on my car, i had put the back one on and went to put the front one up to the hub and the car slipped off the jack onto my leg. I called for help and a guy from the farm I live on came to my aid, he got the car off me and got me a pillow and blanket and some frozen peas to put on my leg. Bein a stupid idiot I tried to stand up, this is when I realised i'd broke my leg, as I applied weight to it my right shin seemed to fold up under my weight and I fell over! The ambulance arrived about half an hour later and the guy gave me Morphene for the pain, now thats good stuff!! When I got to the Hospital I saw a surgeon who explained that my leg was obviously broken and that they were going to try and get it back into place there and then so I had an injection and they had a go. That hurt still! And it didnt work!! So I was moved to another room and about an hour later the same surgeon came to see me again and explained he was going to try again but with a stronger painkiller that wouldnt knock me out but would make me very drowsy and not remember much. Anyway I did fall asleep and when I woke up i'd got a cast on and I thought that they had succeded in fitting the bones together again, how wrong could I be!!! So I stayed in hospital with excellent company, gorgeous nurses and top quality cuisine and 2 days later I had an operation, where they put the clamp into your heel to pull your tibia back down your leg to mate it upto the broken bone from your knee, then they put the metal rod down your bone from the knee to your foot basically and they put one screw in the top through my thigh and two down near my ankle. This was the Sat morning and on the Monday evening, the 6th Feb I was allowed to go home, with strict instructions to rest and exercise my ankle. Today is the224 Feb and the difference is amazing, all the swelling has gone except for my ankle and a bit in my foot, the wounds have healed well the colour in my leg has returned to normal and the skin on my leg feels normal, I can move my leg everywhere I could before, if I sit still it goes stiff at the knee very quickly but I keep moving when I can. I hate crutches and not being able to drive too! Thank god I dont have a cast as they shaved my leg in theatre and now the hairs are coming back the itching is unbearable! I cant wait to get back to normal the consultant says I have another 3 weeks on crutches but that i'm doing well so all I have to do is behave and prey the recovery goes as fast as possible! My thoughts go out to you all who have the same injury its a horrid experience and I would not wish it upon anyone! The phrase 'i'd give my right leg' will never be spoke from my lips again! I hope to hear similar stories from people who have had this happen and would be happy to speak to people who are going through this at the same time as me!
