Comment : True Confessions/ Lessons Learned
Posted by Aggie Smith on Fri 7:37pm 13 June 2003

This will be the first post I made since I got my boot off. Numerous times I wanted to post something positive that mbl was doing , but held back because it always seemed that the next day I was at square one. I want to say I lied about going to pt in the beginning.Because of being self employed I was between companies and had no insurance. I was embarrased to admit this. Murphys law hit me. My OS told me to start pt after 6 wks and I thought money being tight not working I could do it my self....WRONG. By the time I did go to pt 4 wks later I had alot of scar tissue to break up. Its funny I would put my recovery second,as I could not understand why my sister who had cancer chose to go to a local hospital instead of traveling 1 hr to a cancer center. I was angry that she did not do this for herself and was trying to make things easier and less expensive for her family. Now I understand, but I still was wrong you should beg borrow or steal, to go to pt to fully recover. I saw an amazing difference in 4 wks. I was able to take my vacation that we had planned for a year with our sons. I had to walk up to get on a plane and on and off a boat. I had a wonderful time and was able to get rid of my crutches finally 2 wks ago. I went to my OS yesterday for my 16 wks. Wants to see more improvement on up and down flex, thats where the scar tissue is. I have gone back to work. I have my own cleaning company. I worked a 8 hr day on Wed , and cleaned a 4000 sq ft house windows. The feeling of being able to work was amazing. The other day I did all my grocery shopping walking on my own!!! I remember so many days when I would try to walk and the pain would stop me I would say God am I never going to walk again! I am so thankful now that I can. I hope to never take it for granted. I know that I am one of the lucky ones , I am not 100% , but there are people on this web site that I have great admiration for who have had the worst things happen with their bl and are still able to have positive friendly caring attiudes they are my heros. While I was on vacation for 13 days 6 more people posted. I hope I can help them with my tale. It does get better just not when we want it to so soooner some later, do not compare yourself to anyone. I made that mistake also . A ankle fracture according to my OS takes 16 to 20 weeks to heal. If its sooner your lucky. This has been an amazing lesson for me. I learned I have no control, patience which I thought I had HA! Learn hoe to enjoy my life not speed through it. On the way I lost my 2 best friends both my dogs died within the last two months they had long lives and were my companions during my darkest earlier days of MBL , and I will miss them.I will try and keep my diary updated from time to time. Thanks to everyone. Aggie
