Aggie : The surgery
Diary entry posted Mon 9:33am 7 April 2003

Monday morning Feb 17th, the Dr. was able to make it in and I had a one hour surgery to put in a plate and 3 screws on the fib and one screw on the other side. The PA said 8 wks non weight bearing 9 wks to drive. I asked him about traveling to the British Virgin Islands the end of May he said no problem, but that it would hurt to walk on the sand!I was encouraged by that comment as it is a trip we have plan for a year with my 3 sons 2 of which live in Utah and I dont get to see often. What I know now makes me wonder if I will be able to walk well enough to get off and on a boat, which I need to do to get there. I left the hospital the next day ,appt to see the Dr in 2wks to remove staples Two weeks out I was put in blue air cast which I was told I could take off 1 hr a nite to do hygiene and some pt. I did have a good foot flex and toe stretch. My biggest complaint is my knee. I did not hurt it during the fall, but the weight of the cast on it and my hip has taken a toll. Not counting the fact that I have to sleep on my couch because my bedroom is on the second floor, besides I have a water bed and sometimes its difficult getting in and out of it with 2 good legs. The worst part for me is the idleness. I have my own cleaning company, so I was very active ,climbing ladders moving furniture etc. In fact till I broke my ankle including that morning I worked almost 7 days a week for the last 3 years! I often thought of just laying around for a few days on the days I was really tried ...be careful what you wish for. Next Dr. Appt in 4 weeks
