Hello my name is Adam and I am 16 years old. Last week I broke my leg! Here is my story.
I wake up at 10:30 and my Mom is mopping the floor next to my room. I get up and walk out my door and nearly slip and fall. I caught myself that time though! I go outside and wait for the floor to dry throwing a ball in the air. I come back in and take off my socks. I go running through the house and in my head I imagined that it would be cool to slide across the mopped floor. Well it wasn't. I run at full speed and slide. My left leg gets caught on an unmopped piece of the floor and gets twisted all around. I heard it... the Snap and the Pop! I cried for my mom and she came in and was worried immediately. She called 911 but 911 said to bring me in by our own car. So I get up and am screaming in pain the whole way to the car. Meanwhile the middle of my leg has a huge bump and my ankle is swollen like a balloon. I get in the backseat and lay. The whole 30 minute ride to the ER was immensely painful! The ER crew met us at the door with a wheelchair. I get in the wheelchair and they wheel me into the x-ray room. The technician said before taking the x-ray: Yup, its broken. So they took the x-ray and it revealed that I had a spiral tibial shaft fracture and a Type C Fibula Fracture which is a fracture above the joint an causes torn ligaments. They put me in a soft cast and sent me home for the night and to visit the OS in the morning. That night was painful, but I slept pretty well considering. We went to the OS and he said that he would need to operate. I figured that! He said that it was necessary to make a large incision to insert a plate and 6 or 7 screws. The surgery was set for the next day. I go to the Hospital and get ready for it. The anesthesia they gave me worked like a charm. I woke up 7 hours later and I thought I lost my leg! I couldn't feel a thing, but then my Mom showed me my leg and it was in an ace bandage. The next day they gave me a hard cast. I picked my facorite color, blue! The doctors at the hospital were amazing. Sometimes I did not even know what I was there for. I am so thankful they made the experience all and all a pretty good one. They say that by Thanksgiving I should have the plate and screws removed and by Christmas it will be fully healed! What a present that will be! Thank you AlL and hope to chat with everyone soon!
