Aaron_H : Ice is not my friend.
Diary entry posted Tue 10:34am 30 April 2013

Well it was March 13th, and i had the great idea of taking my friend ice skating with me. we both were students in a electrician class and had to decided to skip class that day...Big mistake. After lacing up our skates, we started walking to the ice, at which he told me it had been over a year since he last skated, i told him that i had played hockey for years and been skating my entire life, and nothing had happened to me. So with that being said, we hopped onto the ice and began skating. All was going well until about an hour into our skate. I was skating at a normal stride nothing too fast or too slow, when another skater cut me off from the right hand side as i tried to pass by. When he did this my hockey instincts took over and my reaction was to grab him and try to shove him slightly to the side before colliding. However, this is not what happened, when i grabbed him he transitioned and started skating backwards all while grabbing ahold of me. I hit the brakes when he did this and he did as well, but for some reason my leg got caught into a groove in the ice, and instead of sliding it just stopped all in one motion. My body went forward while my leg remained stationary, which resulted in my leg twisting in a very unnatural way. Total outcome, a tibia that had three breaks, all of which were spiral breaks. It looked like surgery was necessary but upon further examination by my doctor surgery was ruled out. After breaking my leg and getting a full leg cast the following Friday, i thought the worst was over. Just four days after breaking my leg my fiancee left me, still for reasons unknown to me. So not only was i in physical pain but i then had the emotional pain to deal with. There's a saying that things happen in three's and i found this out as well, just a mere week after all this happened my dog decided he was going to die on me. Well its been almost 7weeks since i broke my leg, and last monday was my second visit to my doctor after getting casted. I'm now allowed to have some PWB, about 40lb increments with each week or whatever is comfortable. My orthopedist said that i should have FWB by my next appointment on May 13th. Total recovery time is 12-16weeks. I'll keep everybody updated on how things go.

Best of luck to you all
Aaron.
